About the work:
CRINGE is a kaleidoscopic whirlwind of cascading multimodal scales and swiftly shifting time signatures. Divided into distinct sections marked "Slow" and "Fast", the piece plays out almost like a childish game of tag between two players. Each section is derived from strict compositional systems intended to create a sense of dizziness in the music as the two performers play circles around each other while switching between pitch sets. The constant rising scales almost create a Shepard's Tone effect which is then reversed into a downward spiral of sixteenth notes petering out to the end.
