In my setting of the "Agnus Dei" for a capella choir, I chose to separate the different sections of text with varied harmonic areas. The majority of the piece wanders through a sort of minor mode with various clusters and coloristic chords highlighting different lines in the text, as we ask for mercy. The last section shifts to a major mode to express the idea of peace granted by God, and is also stressed by the inclusion of the text "Alleluia". This performance was provided by the Hardin-Simmons Chorale, conducted by Dr. Dee Romines. Lamb of God, you who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
